Letter to Speaker Boehner and Minority Leader Pelosi on Immigration Reform

Dear Mr. Speaker and Minority Leader Pelosi,

I write you on behalf of the membership of Business Roundtable, CEOs of leading U.S. companies with more than $7.3 trillion in annual revenue and nearly 16 million employees.  The time has come for realistic immigration solutions that will both strengthen national security and make the American economy healthier.  We believe this can be accomplished this year by:

  • Improving security and enforcing immigration laws;
  • Welcoming legal immigrant workers to contribute to America; and
  • Finding a solution for unauthorized immigrants and integrating them into our society.

As business leaders, we also have a part to play in fixing the nation’s broken immigration system, particularly by using a robust electronic system for verifying that each new employee is legally authorized to work in the United States.  Many of us already do so, and we support a nationwide standard for all businesses to follow in the near future.

This is an issue of tremendous importance for the American people, and we understand the need for a deliberate process to ensure that immigration policy is done well.  Whether the House works through a series of bills or one complete legislative package, we encourage you to make successful consideration of immigration reform a top priority.

Attached, please find a copy of our report, “Taking Action on Immigration,” which outlines our policy priorities for fixing America’s broken immigration system.  We stand ready to work with you and all the members of the House of Representatives on realistic, bipartisan solutions that can be enacted this year.

Sincerely,

Greg Brown
