Senate Vote Temporarily Avoids Harmful Tax Hike; Long-term Solution Needed

Washington – Business Roundtable President John Engler released the following statement after the Senate voted to renew the expired tax provisions for one year:

“With today’s passage of tax extenders legislation, America’s businesses will not be hit with a harmful and unnecessary tax hike at the end of the year. We commend Congress for continuing these key job-creating incentives, including the research credit, 50-percent expensing and the important expired international tax provisions. Now, the new Congress and the Administration must work together on broad and permanent reform so that businesses can make long-term investment and hiring decisions.

“One of the quickest ways to spur much-needed economic growth is through tax reform. Business Roundtable will work with members of both parties to modernize the U.S. tax system and give American businesses the confidence they need to plan for the future, invest and create jobs.”

Business Roundtable advocates for a pro-growth agenda that encourages more investment and hiring. Information about our plan is here.
