BRT's John Engler and Sen. Chris Coons on Business Tax Reform

Aug 11, 2014

Appearing on Fox News Sunday this weekend, Business Roundtable President John Engler urged enactment of comprehensive business tax reform as a way to address objections to international mergers and acquisitions. He was joined by Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) in a segment moderated by Fox's Chris Wallace. Video:

A few excerpts from BRT's Engler, via our news release, "America Needs Tax Code ‘That’s the Best in the World that Helps Create the Most Jobs,’ Says Engler on Fox News Sunday":

  • We really haven’t touched [the tax code] in 30 years since the Reagan compromise back in the mid-‘80s, and since that time everybody in the world has been changing their tax code. We’ve now got a tax code that actually is more favorable to foreign-headquartered companies than it is to our own. We ought to have the tax code in the United States that’s the best in the world that helps create the most jobs.
  • [Tax reform] is an opportunity for the President to lead. … Let's not spend the time at the [Department of] Treasury trying to come up with little fixes when we’ve got an opportunity to improve the competitiveness of the United States.
