What is Business Roundtable

Business Roundtable (BRT) is an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies working to promote sound public policy and a thriving U.S. economy.

Liz Gasster is a Vice President for the Business Roundtable. In this role, she oversees the Technology, Internet and Innovation Committee, promoting policies that use technology to access new global markets and customers, and the Smart Regulation Committee, advocating for rules that promote growth instead of stifling business investment and opportunity.

Gasster brings nearly 30 years of experience in the Internet, technology, public policy and legal fields to the Roundtable. Most recently, she served for five years as Senior Policy Counselor for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).  Prior to ICANN, Gasster was General Counsel and then Acting Executive Director of the Cyber Security Industry Alliance, where she represented the organization with Members of Congress, business and trade media and industry leaders.  As General Counsel, Gasster directed public policy development and advocacy, drafted testimony, and provided policy and advocacy advice to the Executive Director and CSIA Board of Directors on information security, online privacy and consumer protection issues.  Previously, she spent many years in various senior legal and policy roles at AT&T, working extensively on financial consumer protection, fair credit reporting and small business financing regulations.

While at AT&T, she was the staff chair of Business Roundtable’s Security Task Force when the company’s CEO led the task force.  In that role, Gasster managed the development of cyber security principles "Securing Cyberspace: Business Roundtable's Framework for the Future."  The principles included recommendations to guide the continual improvement of corporate IT security and the advancement of cyberspace security public policy.  During her tenure, the Roundtable also published a “CEO Guide to Security Challenges,” to assist CEOs in taking steps to protect employees, their communities and critical infrastructures against man-made and natural catastrophes.

Born in Taiwan, Gasster is a long-term Washingtonian who earned a bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University and Juris Doctor (magna cum laude) from The American University Washington College of Law. She resides in Washington, D.C.
