About BRT
J. Michael (Mike) McGuire is the chief executive officer of Grant Thornton LLP, the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL), one of the world’s leading organizations of independent audit, tax and advisory firms. He also serves on the Grant Thornton US Partnership Board and the Grant Thornton International Global Board, and chairs the Grant Thornton Foundation.
 
McGuire has more than 30 years of experience helping clients grow, succeed and drive change in a variety of industries, including technology, services, construction, manufacturing, venture capital, distribution, retail and franchising. He has significant experience in capital markets transactions ranging from venture capital to initial public offerings. He has advised numerous companies in a variety of industries on merger and acquisition strategies, due diligence and deal structure.
 
Prior to becoming CEO in 2015, McGuire served in a number of leadership roles for Grant Thornton, including: national managing partner for Operations; national managing partner of Markets, Industry, People & Culture; and managing partner of the firm’s Carolinas practice, which includes offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., and Columbia, S.C. 
 
Prior to joining the firm, McGuire spent 20 years with Arthur Andersen in numerous roles of increasing responsibility, including as Audit practice leader for the Carolinas.
 
McGuire has served on more than 35 professional and community boards during his career, and currently serves on boards for the Center for Audit Quality, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Queens University of Charlotte and the Johnson & Wales University Epicurean Society.
 
McGuire received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and management information systems from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and is a licensed CPA in Illinois and North Carolina.
