J. Michael (Mike) McGuire is the chief executive officer of Grant Thornton LLP. Grant Thornton LLP is the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd (GTIL), one of the world’s leading organizations of independent audit, tax and advisory firms.
Most recently, he served as national managing partner - operations. In this role, McGuire, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, chaired the firm’s Operating Committee and oversaw the firm’s human resources and marketing and sales teams. In addition, the regional managing partners and the Global Public Sector managing partner reported to him. He also chairs the Grant Thornton Foundation and serves on the GTIL Strategic Driver Execution Team.
McGuire has more than 30 years of experience working closely with high- growth, startup and middle-market companies in a variety of industries, including technology, services, construction, manufacturing, venture capital, distribution, retail and franchising. He has significant experience in capital markets transactions ranging from angel investing to initial public offerings. He has advised numerous companies in a variety of industries on merger and acquisition strategies, due diligence and deal structure.
Previously, McGuire served as the national managing partner of Markets, Industry, People & Culture and served as the managing partner of the firm’s Carolinas practice, which includes offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., and Columbia, S.C. He is also an appointed member of the firm’s Partnership Board.
Prior to joining the firm, he spent 20 years with Arthur Andersen in numerous roles of increasing responsibility, including as Audit practice leader for the Carolinas.
McGuire serves on the board of directors of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and Queens University of Charlotte. He serves as chairman of the board for Advantage Carolina and is co- chair of the Johnson & Wales University Epicurean Society Scholarship Fund. He is a certified public accountant in North Carolina (#15579).
He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and management information system from Bowling Green State University.
