Gregg Steinhafel is chairman, president and chief executive officer for Target. Steinhafel began his career at Target as a merchandising trainee in 1979. Since that time, he has held numerous merchandising and operating positions.
Steinhafel was named President in 1999. During his eight years as President, his responsibilities included merchandising, stores, global sourcing, product design and development, presentation, supply chain and Target.com.
In 2007, he was named to the board of directors and his responsibilities were expanded to include technology services and legal. He was named president and chief executive officer in May 2008, and became chairman of the board of directors in January 2009.
Steinhafel serves on the boards of Target, The Toro Company, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and Tree House, a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Carroll College and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
