Washington – Business Roundtable (BRT) today named Elizabeth Gasster as Vice President of Information & Technology and Regulatory Reform. In this role she will oversee all BRT policy initiatives in the information and technology and regulatory reform areas, helping to shape and advance BRT member companies’ priorities. She joins BRT most recently from Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), where she served as Senior Policy Counselor for the past five years. Gasster also brings nearly three decades of experience working in senior legal and policy roles at AT&T.
“Liz Gasster brings extensive knowledge to the position from her nearly 20 years of experience in the Internet, technology, public policy and legal fields,” said BRT President John Engler. “She is precisely the right person to help lead BRT policy initiatives in the information and technology, and regulatory areas.”
Prior to ICANN, Gasster served in a variety of senior roles during her 27 years at AT&T, including Public Policy Director, Senior Attorney and Director of Federal Government Affairs. During that time, she was also the staff chair of BRT’s Security Task Force when the CEO of AT&T led Business Roundtable’s Security Task Force.
While at AT&T, Gasster also served as President of the Internet Commerce Coalition, a group of Internet communications companies working toward a predictable legal environment to grow the Internet and e-commerce; represented the company in Geneva during the 1996 World Intellectual Property negotiations; and served as a top liaison between the company and legislative and executive branch officials, the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Council, and other Fortune 200 CEOs.
Gasster also spent eight months as General Counsel and then Acting Executive Director for the Cyber Security Industry Alliance (CSIA), where she developed and executed the group’s cyber security agenda and worked with Congress to ratify the Council of Europe Cybercrime Convention.
For BRT, Gasster will oversee a variety of policy and regulatory initiatives as they relate to cyber security and the Internet, permitting, energy production, health care coverage, labor, transportation and transparency, among other issues. She will work closely with BRT membership and the legislative and executive branches.
Gasster earned a bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University and Juris Doctor from The American University Washington College of Law.
