Washington – Business Roundtable (BRT) President John Engler announced today that Matt Sonnesyn has been named Director of Research, responsible for shaping new policy initiatives and research efforts for BRT. He most recently served as Chief of Staff to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.)

 “As an association of leading U.S. CEOs, Matt brings to our organization a tremendous amount of policy expertise including the extensive work he did on Sen. Alexander’s signature legislation, the America COMPETES Act, which will strengthen our country’s competitive edge in science and technology,” said BRT President John Engler. “We are delighted to have him on board.”

Prior to serving as Sen. Alexander’s Chief of Staff, Sonnesyn worked as Sen. Alexander’s chief policy aide and managed the day-to-day operations at the Senate Republican Conference. He also was policy director for Sen. Alexander’s 2002 Senate campaign as well as Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) 2006 senate bid. He has also worked at the American Enterprise Institute.

Sonnesyn holds a B.A. in international relations from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, and a master’s in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
