House T&I Bill Would Modernize Infrastructure, Boost Growth, Speed Project Approvals

Washington – Following today’s strong, bipartisan approval of H.R. 3763, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015, in the House Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) Committee, Business Roundtable President John Engler, released the following statement:

“Today’s action by the House T&I Committee to reauthorize and reform federal highway programs is an important step toward Congress passing a multi-year surface transportation reauthorization bill. America’s business leaders applaud Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Ranking Member Peter DeFazio’s (D-OR) pursuit of bipartisan solutions to the nation’s pressing infrastructure challenges.

“In addition to providing multiyear authorization for critical infrastructure investment, the legislation includes important provisions to modernize the federal permitting and approval process for transportation infrastructure projects, which Business Roundtable has long supported.

“H.R. 3763 would encourage increased business investment, accelerate U.S. economic growth and support millions of American jobs. We are committed to working with all members of Congress to ensure that a surface transportation bill with stable funding is signed into law this year.”

Last month, Business Roundtable released Road to Growth: The Case for Investing in America’s Infrastructure detailing the benefits of infrastructure modernization to U.S. workers, families and businesses.

The Business Roundtable economic growth agenda calls for tax reform, trade expansion, fiscal stability, infrastructure investment and a smarter approach to regulation – including federal permitting reform – so that America can reach its full potential.
