House-Passed Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Bill Advances More Intelligent, Effective Cybersecurity

WashingtonBusiness Roundtable President John Engler today praised the U.S. House of Representatives, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-MI), Ranking Member Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) and members of the Committee for passing H.R. 624, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA).

“America’s business leaders salute the House of Representatives for taking decisive, bipartisan action to protect U.S. information systems from cyber attacks,” said Engler. “Real-time, two-way information sharing between business and government is the critical missing piece in more effective cybersecurity protection.”

The House approved CISPA by a bipartisan vote of 288 to 127.

In January, Business Roundtable released “More Intelligent, More Effective Cybersecurity Protection,” which details its strategy for protecting America from growing global cyber threats. Business Roundtable supports CISPA as a starting point to a legally-protected information sharing framework for the two-way exchange of cybersecurity threat information between government and business, with strong liability protections for those operating within the framework.

“Cybersecurity adversaries are targeting the very core of the global economy and security. With so much at stake, Business Roundtable CEOs are deeply committed to more effective cybersecurity protection,” continued Engler. “We will be working with the Administration and Congress to ensure that information sharing legislation becomes law.”
