Business Leaders Welcome Progress on Critical WTO Agreements

Washington – Business Roundtable, representing CEOs of major U.S. companies operating in every sector of the economy, today welcomed announcements by the Administration of significant steps forward on the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement and an expansion of the WTO Information Technology Agreement. Both agreements are important to expanding trade opportunities and helping revitalize the WTO.

“We applaud U.S. trade negotiators for securing paths forward on the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and the Information Technology Agreement with India and China, respectively,” said Doug Oberhelman, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc. and Chair of the Business Roundtable International Engagement Committee. “To bolster economic growth through trade and reinforce the WTO’s credibility, we urge completion of these two initiatives as soon as possible.”

Business Roundtable has long advocated an aggressive growth agenda, which includes trade expansion through the negotiation of market-opening trade and investment agreements.
