America’s Business Leaders Urge House Leadership to Embrace a Deliberate Process to Ensure that Immigration Policy is Done Well

WashingtonBusiness Roundtable, an association of CEOs of leading U.S. companies from every sector of the economy, sent a letter today to House Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi encouraging the U.S. House of Representatives to embrace a “deliberate process to ensure that immigration policy is done well.”

Greg Brown, Chairman & CEO of Motorola Solutions, Inc. and Chair of Business Roundtable’s Select Committee on Immigration, wrote in the letter:

“This is an issue of tremendous importance for the American people…Whether the House works through a series of bills or one complete legislative package, we encourage you to make successful consideration of immigration reform a top priority.

“The time has come for realistic immigration solutions that will both strengthen national security and make the American economy healthier. We believe this can be accomplished this year by:

  • Improving security and enforcing immigration laws;
  • Welcoming legal immigrant workers to contribute to America; and
  • Finding a solution for unauthorized immigrants and integrating them into our society.

“As business leaders, we also have a part to play in fixing the nation’s broken immigration system, particularly by using a robust electronic system for verifying that each new employee is legally authorized to work in the United States. Many of us already do so, and we support a nationwide standard for all businesses to follow in the near future.”

Business Roundtable released its blueprint for immigration reform, “Taking Action on Immigration: Realistic Solutions for Fixing a Broken System,” earlier this year.
