America’s Business Leaders Commend Senate Immigration Bill as Important First Step

WashingtonBusiness Roundtable, representing CEOs of leading U.S. companies from every sector of the economy, today praised the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013” as a critical first step in advancing top-to-bottom reform of the U.S. immigration system, but expressed concern about overly restrictive provisions related to temporary high-skilled visas that may impede U.S. employers’ ability to hire highly sought after top world talent.

“We commend the bipartisan ‘Gang of 8’ senators for putting forward a bill that addresses the big challenges we have identified for getting U.S. immigration policy right,” said Greg Brown, Chairman & CEO of Motorola Solutions, Inc. and Chair of Business Roundtable’s Select Committee on Immigration. “As business leaders, we know that immigration policy is critical to creating a healthier economy, and we are concerned that proposed restrictions on temporary high-skilled visas may have the opposite effect, which is why we will continue working with all policymakers to ensure realistic, bipartisan solutions can be enacted.”

Business Roundtable outlined the challenges facing the American immigration system earlier this month in the Roundtable’s “Taking Action on Immigration: Realistic Solutions for Fixing a Broken System,” which included policy recommendations for boosting U.S. growth and competiveness by improving security and enforcing immigration laws; welcoming legal immigrant workers to contribute to America; and finding a solution for unauthorized immigrants.
