America’s Business Leaders Applaud Senate Judiciary Committee for Passing Immigration Bill

WashingtonBusiness Roundtable, representing CEOs of leading U.S. companies from every sector of the economy, today praised bipartisan passage of S. 744, the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act,” by a vote of 13-5. The measure to overhaul America’s immigration system was supported by all Democratic members of the Committee and three Republicans, Senators Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

“We commend members of the Senate Judiciary Committee for working on a bipartisan basis to take us one step closer to finally fixing America’s broken immigration system, by strengthening enforcement and focusing future immigration policy on welcoming those who will come here to work hard and contribute to America,” said Greg Brown, Chairman & CEO of Motorola Solutions, Inc. and Chair of Business Roundtable’s Select Committee on Immigration. “We applaud the efforts of the Committee, and particularly the Senate ‘Gang of 8,’ for taking on the issues we have to get right to keep America competitive, and we look forward to working with all stakeholders on realistic, bipartisan solutions that can be enacted without delay.”

Business Roundtable outlined earlier this year the major challenges that must be addressed by any reform measure in “Taking Action on Immigration: Realistic Solutions for Fixing a Broken System,” which included policy recommendations for boosting U.S. growth and competiveness by improving security and enforcing immigration laws; welcoming legal immigrant workers to contribute to America; and finding a solution for unauthorized immigrants.
