Business Roundtable is an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies working to promote a thriving economy and expanded opportunity for all Americans through sound public policy.
Business Roundtable supports a number of federal proposals that would reform medical liability laws including the following:
First, revising tort laws to ensure there are appropriate remedies for those who are negligent, while limiting damages where there is no negligence.
Second, developing alternative mechanisms to resolve claims to ensure those who are in fact harmed as the result of negligence get relief.
Third, continuing support of the use of appropriate medical practice guidelines, as developed by national professional organizations or other similarly qualified organizations. If the guidelines are followed by a physician, then that should act as a complete defense to a malpractice action.
