CVS Caremark announced today that Larry Burton, Business Roundtable's executive director, will join the company later this month as senior vice president of government affairs. Congratulations.

CVS Caremark issued a news release that announced the appointment, reporting, "Burton will join the company as of February 27th and will be focused on continuing to grow the company's role as a pharmacy innovation company working to help improve health care access, reduce overall costs and improve health outcomes at state and federal levels."

BRT President John Engler wished Larry all the best: "The CEOs of the Business Roundtable have all benefitted from Larry's insight and leadership on many key issues. I have watched and admired his steady approach, and he will be a superb addition to the CVS Caremark team as health care in America continues to undergo major change."

Thankfully, the professional relationship continues. CVS Caremark's Larry J. Merlo, president and CEO, is a member of Business Roundtable. He has a great record of leadership at the company, one of the most successful in the country:

Under his leadership, CVS/pharmacy has generated industry-leading sales and profit results through both organic growth and acquisitions.  In fact, Merlo has the best industry track record of integrating major acquisitions.  He has successfully led five major retail integrations including Revco, Arbor, Eckerd, Savon-Osco and Longs.  He is known and respected for setting high expectations, building collaborative teams and an environment of candor and trust, establishing clear accountability and delivering results.

Good luck, Larry!
