Born following years of disarray, defeat and dysfunction, their autumn started with a sense of optimism, the possibility of victory, hope. They pushed it to the brink of success, the final moments. And then the Washington Redskins stumbled badly, losing to the Dallas Cowboys, 27-24, in overtime.

As for the supercommittee...

The deadline for submitting its recommendations to CBO for scoring is still midnight tonight, but the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction appears set to fail in its statutory assignment to reduce the federal deficit by $1.2 trillion over the next decade. Sequestration now follows, maybe.

BRT will be waiting for the official statements about where things stand and what will happen next. For now, here are some of the notable reports commentaries of the last 24 hours.

Finger-pointing to follow -- for both the Redskins and the deficit-reduction committee -- but back-and-forth criticisms can also foster accountability. The season's not over yet.
