Mark A. Murray is President of Meijer, Inc. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Meijer operates a chain of 181-self-service combination supermarket-discount department stores located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
Mark was President of Grand Valley State University for five years -2001-2006, following a two-decade, career in state government and education. He was the third president in the history of Grand Valley, which was founded in 1960 and has grown to an enrollment of 23,000 students.
During his years in state government, Mr. Murray was State Treasurer, State Budget Director, Director of the Department of Management and Budget, and acting director of the Family Independence Agency. He also served as Vice President for Finance and Administration at Michigan State University.
Mr. Murray received his master’s degree in Labor and Industrial Relations and his bachelor’s degree in Economics, both from Michigan State University.
