John W. Eaves is Arch Coal’s president and chief executive officer, and a member of its board of directors. Arch Coal is a top-five global coal producer and marketer.
Prior to assuming his current position in April 2012, Eaves had served as president and chief operating officer of Arch – and as a member of its board of directors – since 2006. During his tenure with the company, he also has held the positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer; senior vice president of marketing; and vice president of marketing and president of Arch Coal Sales, the company’s marketing subsidiary. Eaves joined the corporation in 1987 after serving in various marketing-related positions at Diamond Shamrock Coal Company and Natomas Coal Company.
A native of Greenville, Kentucky, Eaves earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. In addition to his responsibilities with Arch Coal, Eaves serves on the board of CoaLogix and is the incoming chair of the National Coal Council. He also serves on the board of the Greater Saint Louis YMCA.
